Legends…Heroes…Stars of the Future
Lisdowney will host them all this
year. Many of the games greatest heroes
and legends graced the field of play in Lisdowney in late May for a friendly
game between some of the all time greats that have stepped down from hurling at
Tommy Walsh, JJ Delaney, DJ Carey, Charlie Carter, Derek Lyng, Aidan Fogarty, Paddy Hogan and Brian Kennedy to name but a few.
Interestingly out of the 21 county players that participated in the Legends Return 15 of them played in the Lisdowney Windfarm Ltd Lisdowney 7’s tournament at U13 level.
On Saturday 18th July 28
clubs from the county Kilkenny, clubs from Clare, Tipperary, Laois, Carlow and
Kildare will begin the challenge for the 35th Lisdowney Windfarm Ltd. Lisdowney 7’s tournament. A total of 50 clubs were contacted about this
This figure includes all the clubs in county Kilkenny, clubs from out side the county that have been loyal to the tournament over the years and clubs from outside the county that have expressed an interest in participating. Thirty two teams will compete in this event and there is a stand-by list of 7 teams waiting in the wings for a cancellation and the opportunity to participate.
The first game will kick off at 10am each morning and games are 15 minutes a side with 7 players on the field and a panel of 10. Skill, speed, accuracy, agility and vision are just some of the skills required to master the game of 7 aside. This event is open to all to come and view free of charge. So if hurling is your passion this event will certainly provide the best of entertainment. With a total of 16 games on each qualifier Saturday and 14 games on finals day the tournament promises to be an ideal opportunity to see the skill and passion of the players of the future.
